Get out your greenest t-shirts, St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and it’s nearly time to celebrate! Don’t worry if you’re not based in the Emerald Isle this St. Patrick’s Day – this famous Irish celebration paints cities around the world green and we have made a list of the best St. Patrick’s Day parades in cities outside of Ireland!

1. New York City, U.S.A. 

The New York City St. Patrick’s Day parade is one of the most famous St. Patrick’s parade in the world. Not only is it the largest parade in the world it is also one of the oldest, dating back to 1762. The parade is run by volunteers and roughly 150,000 people march up Fifth Avenue every year, with about 2 million spectators lining the streets in awe. This parade is so successful year in and year out as it maintains the pride and tradition of the Irish and is a fun day out for everyone! Paddy’s Day in the Big Apple there is no reason why this wouldn’t be on your list of things to do!

2. Boston, U.S.A.

Boston is another American city with proud Irish connections and a proud Irish history, with nearly a quarter of Boston’s population boasting Irish heritage. Every year around 1 million people gather on the sidewalks to watch the spectacular parade with an array of colourful floats and signs and the memorising marching and pipe bands. Along with the parade, the city of Boston hosts a number of other events in honour of St. Patrick’s Day, there are Celtic punk rock competitions, Irish film festivals and live music in every Irish pub in the city. Boston is definitely one of the best cities to celebrate this Irish holiday in!

3. Sydney, Australia.

Down Under in Sydney, there is also a world-class St. Patrick’s Day celebration, also known as the Green Gathering. The Sydney parade is family-orientated, diverse, but also wild! There are food, dancing and Irish music ringing throughout the city, with something for everyone. For those looking for a slightly wilder time, there is the St. Patrick’s Day Booze Cruise which sails around Sydney Harbour for 3 hours of fun! There’s certainly a lot to do on Paddy’s Day in Sydney and there seems to be something for everyone!

4. London, U.K.

A stone’s throw away from the home of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration, across the Irish Sea, a grand parade takes place each year in London! Approximately 125,000 people gather in celebration of St. Patrick in Trafalgar Square. Later in the evening, the celebrations continue, with much more celebrating in bars and pubs across the city. The parade, which passes some of the most famous attractions in the city, is one of the world’s greatest St. Patrick’s Day parades.

5. Buenos Aires, Argentina

When you think of Buenos Aires, a massive Irish celebration doesn’t necessarily spring to mind! However, with the fifth largest Irish community in the world, the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Buenos Aires is spectacular. At 3 p.m the parade begins with dancing fairies, pixies and elves moving through the streets followed by marching and pipe bands and Irish dancers! After the parade, there are live performances by Irish bands and then the party moves into the Irish bars and pubs in the city. With almost perfect weather and a great day of celebrating in store, there isn’t a better time to visit Buenos Aires.
